At the Pleasantville Learning Center we have highly qualified tutors to work with
your students. Our private tutoring consists of one hour of intense one-on-one
learning. We offer our services in many different subjects. Let us know what
subject your child needs and we will provide a tutor for you. Our private tutoring
also helps you study and review for any upcoming exams, and standardized tests
such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and TACHS.

Our offerings include:
Reading/Writing/English
Strong literary skills are necessary for success in all subject areas. When a student is
struggling in reading, it can have a negative affect on all of his/her studies, especially at the
elementary level. For younger students, PLC tutors in the areas of writing and language
arts help to improve spelling, grammar, and creative writing skills. We work to help our
middle school and high school students understand and appreciate different literary genre
and assist with advanced writing projects.
Mathematics
Our tutors provide individualized mathematics instruction at any level. Our tutors can help
your child become a more successful math student through strategies which stimulate
curiosity and strengthen his/her problem solving skills.
Science
Our science tutors will help students who are struggling in science at any grade level.
From basic science to more advanced chemistry, biology, and physics we have tutors who
can teach any level of science needed.
Foreign Languages
We have tutors fluent in many different languages - Spanish, French, and Italian who can
also teach at any level, from beginner to advanced.
PSAT, SAT, ACT, and TACHS Test Preparation
People often call and ask us, "How many sessions do I need before I will be ready for the
exam?" The answer to that question varies for each student, although we do recommend at
least 8 one hour sessions, for both the math and verbal. Ask yourself the following:
What type of student are you and what level of classes are you currently enrolled in (any
advanced placement or honors courses)? Tell us about your most recent report card. Are
you stronger in verbal versus math, or equal in both?
What was your score on the PSAT? Do you feel like that was an accurate indicator of your
ability?
What are your goals? Which colleges interest you? What are their SAT score ranges from
the class they recently admitted?
What type of commitment are you willing to make? For the students who have worked
hard in our classes and individual instruction, amazing results have been their reward. Are
you willing to work hard to accomplish this?
We offer highly effective SAT tutoring intended to build confidence and foster positive
changes in test-taking performance and persistence. Students develop techniques and learn
strategies through their participation, test-taking practice, and skill building. Commitment
and successful application of these techniques and strategies can assist students to be more
comfortable and prepared for the test. Our goal leading up to the exam is to give our
students the tools and the confidence to maximize their score.
Educational Testing Specialists:
An optional service offered is Diagnostic Testing which provides important information
on student achievement levels. Additionally, it is the baseline from which prescriptive
remedial programs are developed.
